Welcome to Chapter 16 of Dan Bennett - The Diary of a Bored Kid!
Happy New Year guys!
Welcome back to the blog, and welcome to 2021.
So let's start with some housekeeping...
I'm not one for New Years Resolutions, if you want to do something why would you wait for the start of a New Year to do it, why not just do it?
However, despite not liking New Years resolutions I have turned into one of those guys who is a fan of self reflection, so what better time to self reflect than the New Year, after the hangover has worn away, and after all the Christmas decorations have been packed away.
Clean house, clean mind n all that.
So I have set some goals for the year, that I am going to be regularly posting about. Despite, running my own Accountability Academy, I am going to use this blog as my own personal Accountability Program.
Forbes ran an article in 2018, where they stated those; "who vividly describe their goals are 1.2-1.4 times more likely to successfully accomplish their goal."
This statistic is then increased when a person, posts about a goal to their community, as they are eliciting social proof as another factor in keeping themself accountable to hitting said goal. Basically the premise being, you don't want to look like a dick for posting about doing something, and then not doing anything about it.
Makes you look like a bit of a knob, and someone who is all talk and no bite!
So that's what I'm doing here - Using the readers of this article, to hold myself accountable to a few specific goals and tasks that I am going to do in 2021.
I highly urge you guys to try similar things for similar personal goals you may have. Setting up Accountability systems and processes, to ensure that you achieve what you are after is a really good way of doing what you want to do...
Personally, for much of 2020 I had a Mentor, who worked with me aligning my thoughts and actions to what I actually wanted to do, and then ensured I did what I said I was going to do. They aren't necessarily there to tell you what to do, but they are there to help you find the answer for yourself and then ensure you actually follow through with it.
Away from some of my business goals for 2021, of buying my first investment property and growing my online Accountability Academy.. What I am going to do is hold myself accountable to the other areas of work that I regularly post about and love doing!
1) I am going to be posting a blog post once a week. No matter where in the world I am, at the end of this year I should have as a minimum 52 extra blog posts on my site!
2) I am going to be seriously leveling up the Podcast, and will aim to feature 1 guest a month on the channel and consistently produce a high level podcast. Bearing in mind I started this a few months ago, it's insane how much better the podcast already is, but I have so much further I want to go and so much more to learn!
3) I am going to continue to send out my bi-weekly email, Monday / Thursday and I have a specific number of subscribers that I am aiming to hit before years end. Therefore, if you love personal development, funny stories, and want to help me out, I'd love you to give it a follow at the link below. Never know.. You may learn something, worst happens you can just unsubscribe.
Finally, and something that I think we can all get behind, I really just want to enjoy 2021. I want to enjoy the process of building my business, blog and podcast. I want to enjoy traveling and spending time with my friends and family. We are in control of how we feel, and as shit as it is having to deal with so much outside stimuli with the virus, lockdowns, restrictions, ultimately, we are in control of how we feel about it all.
2020 was tough, a lot of that was due to not being able to do what we want to do, 2021, doesn't promise to be any different. Despite, us being near to a public wide Vaccine and the distant thoughts of normality on the horizon, we still have a ways to go.
As I wrap up the first post of the year in 2021, I hope you all have a successful year to come, I hope you all work on things that you love, and I hope you achieve everything that you want to achieve.
More so than anything. I hope you enjoy it!
It's always good to remember, time is finite, so we need to do a better job of enjoying the little time we have.
As always thanks for reading. Heres to a good year to come!
